Digital Racebook for Mid-May Horse Racing

PayPerHead agents can make money in their digital racebook on Santa Anita Park and Churchill Downs horse racing.

Like every sports-related industry, thoroughbred racing has taken a hit; the good news is, players can still bet in the digital racebook.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused racetracks throughout the U.S. to cease operations. But as states lift some stay-at-home restrictions, two of the most famous tracks in the country are ready to operate.

Both Southern California’s Santa Anita Park and Kentucky’s Churchill Downs plan to reopen in mid-May. Santa Anita’s reopening will be a restart. Churchill’s is a kickoff to their spring meet.

Santa Anita hopes to open May 15th.

Santa Anita Park has not raced since March 22. Things are looking up.

California Governor Gavin Newsom said May 15 is the target date to lift some restrictions. The L.A. County Health Department could declare Santa Anita a safe place to work before May 15.

Trainers are bullish on a Santa Anita restart. On Monday, May 4, Bob Baffert shipped his horses back to Santa Anita from Oaklawn. On May 2, the 5-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer won both divisions of the Arkansas Derby.

Hall-of-fame trainer Richard Mandella kept his horses in his barn. Although some of his horses were ready to run, Mandella decided to stay at Santa Anita.

Santa Anita’s racing office published a condition book for events from May 15 through May 24. The SoCal thoroughbred track hopes to run races every Thursday through Sunday.

Monday, May 25, Santa Anita runs a special Memorial Day card. The Memorial Day race card will include a couple of Grade 1 events.

The Great Race Place scheduled the Santa Anita Derby for Saturday, June 6. That’s Santa Anita’s most important Kentucky Derby prep race.

Churchill Downs’ opening day was May 16th.

The Kentucky Derby was supposed to happen on May 2.

Churchill will run the real Kentucky Derby on Saturday, September 5. On May 16, the Twin Spires opens their spring meet. Churchill runs live racing from Thursday through Sunday.

Like Santa Anita, the Twin Spires has a special Memorial Day card.

Churchill Downs’ closing day is June 27. On closing day, the U.S.’s most famous thoroughbred horse racing track runs four races worth a cumulative $900,00.

Because the Twin Spires rescheduled Derby Day, the Grade 1 Stephen Foster has become Churchill’s featured race during the 2020 spring meet.

Horse racing online is the norm.

Horse racing can thrive regardless of social distancing rules. The Sport of Kings was the first to adopt online betting. Horseplayers wager on their mobile phones.

For years, on-track attendance has dwindled while track handle has risen. The pandemic has led to more online horse race betting.

Fonner Park has enjoyed its all-time best daily handle. The Nebraska facility is one of a handful of thoroughbred racetracks that didn’t close their doors.

Will Rogers Downs has also made more money. In the past, only the most experienced horseplayers wagered on races at Will Rogers Downs. Because other tracks didn’t open, Will Rogers gained betting action.

Santa Anita Park and Churchill Downs running horses should excite bookie agents. Both racetracks should energize players more than Will Rogers Downs or Fonner Park did.

Sportsbook owners can increase revenue in their digital racebooks. Both Churchill and Santa Anita will promote their races to no end. Per head agents can ride those tracks’ marketing to increase horse racing betting action.
