Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Preview

After another thrilling weekend, with Dustin Johnson coming away with the title in Cromwell Connecticut, the PGA Tour will head to the Motor City for the next event. The field is down a little in Detroit from some of the past few weekends, but there are still some excellent golfers playing. Here is a look at a few of the favorites in the field, with our betting pick to follow:

Bryson DeChambeau +700

One of the best golfers in the world. He finished the Travelers with a 68 on the final day to finish 6th place in the event. Bryson has made the cut in all but two events he has played in this season, and has an astonishing 8 Top 10 finishes. This guy is a long hitter, with the ability to outthink the field. DeChambeau is the betting favorite, and will be a threat to win this event in Detroit.

Webb Simpson +1200

The guy after DeChambeau in terms of betting favorites is Webb Simpson. This should be no surprise, as he is as steady as it gets on the course. Webb Simpson has made the cut 7 out of 8 times this season, with 6 Top 10 finishes. Webb did not play this past weekend at the Travelers, which came after taking down the title at the RBC Heritage. Simpson is listed at +1200.

Tyrell Hatton +1400

Playing much of his season on the European Tour, we do not get to see a bunch of this guy in these tournaments. But, this is an opportunity, and we can see how talented he is. Hatton has reached the cut in all five events this season, and finished in the Top 5, 4 times already. Hatton finished 3rd at the RBC Heritage, and won the Arnold Palmer back in March.

Patrick Reed +1600

Reed played a really nice final day at the Travelers. He finished with a 64 to move into 24th place. There was some question whether he would even make the cut early on in the weekend. Reed has now seen a run of four of the last five tournaments he has played in inside the Top 25. Reed is a major winner, and this is an event, he would love to get going.

Rickie Fowler +2700

Fowler’s odds are interesting, because this is a guy that can win this event. The problem for Fowler has been his recent form. He has missed cuts in back to back events, with the Charles Schwab and RBC Heritage. He is hoping that the week off from playing in an event will get his swing back. Fowler is listed at +2700 to win the event.

Jason Day +4500

It actually ended up being a solid weekend for Day. While he did not finish inside the Top 25, he did shoot four straight rounds under par. That’s a big improvement for a guy that missed the cut in four straight events dating back to February. Day has only made the cut in half the events he has played in this season. It will be interesting to see if Day can keep that momentum up when he heads to Detroit. Day is another guy that has won a major before, so this is the time he would like to start rounding into form as we are a month away from the first major of the season.
